In my research I’ve seen what I refer to in the book as the “switch-on factor.” You try this cure, and then immediately your hearing is restored. This is something that I’ve seen repeatedly in the archive as early as the 19th century. And a lot of it has to do with the misconception of the struggles of trying to hear. I mean, it’s not just like hearing with your ears. Your brain is part of the process, too, interpreting, making sense of where the sounds are coming from, having comprehension. All of that is part of the hearing experience.
