Thank You Dear Reader: A Giveaway!

I just want to take a pause from my hectic workload–which this week consists of writing one 3000-word paper, and editing another from 21,000 words to 10,000–to thank all of my lovely readers.

This blog is still in its infancy, but I am amazed at the sudden growth in readership. In my first month I only had 5 visits; it’s not even the end of June, and this blog already had over 500 visits for the month. To thank you, Dear Reader, I will be hosting a giveaway: a free book!

The book in question is Sex and War: How Biology Explains Warfare and Terrorism and Offers a Path to a Safer World, by University of California Berkeley obstetrician Malcolm Potts and science writer Thomas Hayden. Feel free to read an interview with the authors on Wired Science.

To enter the giveaway, all you have to do is leave a comment with (a) your name (b) your email, and because I’m a curious person, (c) the name of your favourite book. I’ll run the giveaway until July 2, upon which a random comment will be drawn. Bonus: you can enter up to 5 comments!

  1. “We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand” – Randy Pausch (Book: The Last Lecture) 🙂

  2. This is a great idea.

Congrads on the readership growth, too — impressive indeed!

And condolences on the papers — those are truly horrific, bloated groupings of words. Good luck!

The name of my favourite book…? Like, right now? That’s probably Sloane Crosley’s new book of essays, How Did You Get This Number since I just finished it a few hours ago…

Overall? Probably Lydia Millet’s Everyone’s Pretty.

  3. One favourite book!? You are joking, ar’n’t you!? Glad to see you getting established; the blogahedron needs more blogs on the history of science, technology and medicine.

    When push comes to shove:

    Imre Lakatos, “Proofs and Refutations”.
