A Quote.

One of my favourite quotes from John Harrison Curtis, in which he rallies for the aurist to embrace his innate social responsibility:

Deafness is universally spoken of as a defect; and is often one of the most serious description…Who, for example, would choose to employ a deaf surgeon, or consult a deaf physician; hire even a deaf servant, or enlist a deaf man for a solider?

J.H. Curtis, A Clinical Report on the Royal Dispensary for the Diseases of the Ear (London: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green & Co., 1832).
